Twelve officers of the Department of Foreign Affairs have to date retired under the Government's early retirement scheme. There have been no redundancies in the Department.

Since the introduction of the Government's redundancy and early retirement scheme seven redundancies and 493 early retirements have been sanctioned in my Department and in the offices under my aegis. Six of the redundancies apply to non-industrial civil servants and one to a non-commercial state-sponsored body. Of the early retirements, 241 are in the non-industrial Civil Service category and 252 are in the industrial category.
