Vol. 382 No. 10

Written Answers. - Compensation for Storm Damages.

99.

asked the Minister for the Marine if compensation has yet been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny arising out of damages caused by hurricane Charlie.

Compensation has not yet been paid. Following the storm, an aid package was approved by the Government to give financial assistance to a small number of fish farmers in response to representations made on their behalf by the Irish Aquaculture Association. The scheme is limited in its application to those fish farms on whose behalf assistance was originally sought.

The claim in question was not received in my Department in time to be included in the scheme. My Department are, however, making a special effort on behalf of the fish farmer concerned to see if his claim can be accommodated, having regard to all the circumstances of the case. This matter will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
