Written Answers. - Registration of Title Act Compensation.

asked the Minister for Justice the amount which has been paid out in compensation under section 120 of the Registration of Title Act, 1964, since that Act came into force; the amount which is provided in the current year's Estimates to meet possible claims under the section and the number of transactions which have been registered under that Act in each of the last three years.

The Registration of Title Act, 1964, came into operation on 1 January 1967. Since then a total of £165,753.99 was paid in compensation under section 120 of the Act.

There is a provision of £100,000 in subhead B.1 of Vote 24 of the Revised Estimates for Public Services, 1988, to meet possible claims under section 120 of the 1964 Act.

The number of transactions which have been registered under the 1964 Act in each of the last three years is as follows: 1985, 80,948; 1986, 84,848; 1987, 81,161.
