Vol. 383 No. 2

Written Answers. - Safety Practices in Forest Industry.

40.

asked the Minister for Energy if he has examined the safety practices in the forest industry with a view to updating existing legislation.

My colleague, the Minister for Labour, is currently developing draft legislation based on the main recommendations of the "Barrington" commission of inquiry on safety, health and welfare at work which he intends to introduce in the Oireachtas shortly. The new legislation will extend legislative protection to all employers, employees and the self employed including forestry workers who are outside the scope of existing legislation.
