Vol. 383 No. 4

Written Answers. - Attacks on Public Transport Staff.

93.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to recent attacks on the staff on late night buses and DART trains; and if he will ensure that such late night buses and DART trains receive extra Garda protection.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the problem of attacks on late night bus crews has been the subject of discussions with Dublin Bus and that a number of measures are being taken by the Garda to deal with the situation in conjunction with security measures being introduced by the company. Proceedings are being instituted against 22 persons in respect of various offences, including assaults on crews, which were committed in recent weeks. The problem will continue to receive Garda attention. The Garda authorities have also informed me that while attacks on DART service staff have not been the subject of special complaint, gardaí do patrol the trains regularly.
