Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - Civil Legal Claim Patients.

224.

asked the Minister for Health if his Department has issued any guidelines to voluntary hospitals regarding daily maintenance rates in respect of patients undergoing treatment for injuries which are to be the subject of civil legal claims for damages.

Voluntary hospitals, in providing services on behalf of health boards to a person injured by the negligent use of a mechanically propelled vehicle in a public place and in respect of which the person has received, or is entitled to receive, damages or compensation, charge the full economic cost of providing such services under the provisions of the Health (Amendment) Act, 1986. In other cases there are no special charges and normal eligibility considerations apply.
