Vol. 384 No. 2

Written Answers. - Aughnacloy Shooting.

18.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will publish the report of the investigation undertaken by Deputy Garda Commissioner Crowley into the circumstances of the killing of Mr. Aiden McAnespie of Aughnacloy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

25.

asked the Minister for Justice if the report on the investigation by Deputy Garda Commissioner Crowley into the shooting at Aughnacloy earlier this year, will be published.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 18 and 25 together.

As I stated in response to parliamentary questions in the House on 19 May last, and again as recently as last Wednesday when I deputised for the Tánaiste at Question Time, the inquiry into the fatal shooting of Aidan McAnespie at Aughnacloy on 21 February last was conducted on the basis that the wishes of witnesses to have their statements and identity treated as confidential would be respected. For that reason, the report of the inquiry will not be made available to anybody other than the Government.
