Vol. 384 No. 2

Written Answers. - Prison Trades Officers.

83.

asked the Minister for Justice the reason prison trades officers have been moved from their normal duties to carry out duties normally reserved for prison officers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A number of prison trades officers in the various institutions have been redeployed to general prison officer duties on a temporary basis until the end of the year in order to supplement general prison officer staffing levels. This is one of a number of measures which have been taken in order to keep within this year's overtime allocation and it was possible to implement it without causing any significant interruption for the prison building and maintenance programme.
