Vol. 384 No. 2

Written Answers. - Physeptone Administration.

87.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of occasions on which physeptone has been administered to prisoners in prison during the past twelve months; and the number of prisoners to whom physeptone has been administered in that period.

The information sought by the Deputy is not readily available — it could be compiled only by means of an examination of the medical records relating to each offender. Such an examination would involve the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time and the diversion of staff from more necessary work.

The prescribing of physeptone, including the number of occasions on which it is to be administered in any case, is a matter for the prison medical officers.
