Vol. 384 No. 2

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Application.

92.

asked the Minister for Justice the average length of time taken to make a decision on an application for naturalisation following receipt of the relevant completed application form; and, in particular, when a decision will be made regarding a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 who submitted his form in August, 1988 following protracted requests for permission to apply.

The average length of time taken at present to process an application for naturalisation is approximately six months.

The person referred to in the question submitted an application for naturalisation last August. Inquiries are continuing in relation to the application. When these have been completed I will make a decision and the applicant will be notified accordingly. I should add that if these inquiries, which relate to the question of statelessness, have not been completed by the time the applicant has been resident here for five years it will become possible to consider his application independently of the issue of statelessness.
