Vol. 384 No. 6

Written Answers. - Great Southern Hotel Chain.

98.

asked the Minister for Labour if he has had any discussions with the staff of the Great Southern Hotel chain regarding their proposed disposal; and if he will consult them before entering into any contract for their disposal.

On 18 October last, I had discussions with the national group secretary of the main union involved together with representatives of employees in the various hotels of the group. Since then, following consideration of a number of offers for the purchase of the Great Southern Hotels Group, the Government have decided not to accept any of these offers. I understand that employees in the group have been notified to this effect by the management.

I am very conscious of the employees' concerns and can assure the Deputy that they will be borne in mind in the context of any future proposals relating to the group. I have asked the management of the group to keep the staff totally informed of any developments that might affect their interests.
