asked the Minister for Health the number of cases of breast cancer diagnosed in the years 1985 to 1988 inclusive.

The information requested by the Deputy is not available nationally. However, the number of new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in Counties Cork and Kerry was as follows: 1985: 190 (71.1 per 100,000 female population); 1986: 176 (65.9 per 100,000 female population).

This information was compiled by the Southern Tumour Registry. At present a working group is meeting concerning the establishment of a national cancer registry.
