Vol. 384 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tralee, Kerry, College Appointment Proposal.

282.

asked the Minister for Education, given the fact that 1,500 students and 46 full-time and 41 part-time teachers are now using facilities at Tralee Community College, County Kerry, if she will sanction the appointment of a clerical assistant post in the school as a matter of urgency.

I met a deputation consisting of the Chairman of the Town of Tralee VEC, the CEO, chairperson of the board of management of the college and principal of the college in Tralee on the 28 November last regarding this matter.

I informed the deputation that the embargo on public service staffing introduced by the previous Government and continued by this Government did not permit the sanctioning of an appointment in this case.

It is a matter for the VEC to redeploy its staff so as best to meet the needs of its school.
