Vol. 385 No. 4

Written Answers. - Developing Schools Personnel.

57.

asked the Minister for Education if she will urgently consider the appointment of additional assistant teachers in (a) St. Attracta's senior national school, Meadowbrook and (b) Scoil Treasa, Firhouse, Dublin 16, all of which are developing schools; the reason teachers who are at present on the panel are not being immediately allocated to positions in developing schools such as these; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The staffing of the schools in question has been determined in accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO under the Programme for National Recovery, taking into account, where appropriate, the provisions relating to developing schools. I am satisfied that the appropriate staffing has been provided in each case.

Appointments from the panel can only be made where the school meets the criteria for the establishment of the post. Teachers remaining on the Diocesan Panel will be required to fill vacancies which are expected to arise during the course of the school-year.
