Vol. 385 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Teacher Status Claim.

1.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Galway was informed by letter from her Department that she was regarded as a privileged assistant when she moved to Kingstown national school; if this position is different from that outlined in a reply to Parliamentary Question No. 29 of 8th November, 1988; and if she will grant her the full entitlements of a privileged assistant under her Department's regulations.

The reference made to privileged assistant status in the letter referred to by the Deputy was incorrect. A further letter was sent to the teacher one week later, on 11 February 1987, notifying her of the error.

The teacher was previously notified by official letter dated 20 July 1978 that she did not qualify for classification as privileged assistant following the closing of Inishturk Island National School. That remains the position.
