Vol. 385 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payment.

87.

asked the Minister for Health the reason a person (details supplied) in County Kerry had his disabled person's maintenance allowance from the Southern Health Board discontinued.

The payment of disabled persons maintenance allowance in any individual case is a matter for the health board concerned having regard to all the circumstances of that case.

I have had inquiries made from the Southern Health Board in this case and have been informed that the allowance was discontinued because, following medical assessment, the applicant was considered to be capable of working. The applicant has appealed the decision and his appeal is at present being considered by the Southern Health Board. A decision on the appeal is expected very shortly.
