Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - Clonmacnoise (Offaly) Development.

162.

asked the Minister for Finance when he proposes to implement the plans for the provision of an interpretative centre at Clonmacnoise, County Offaly given its international reputation and the thousands of tourists who visit the site annually.

Major improvements have been made by the Commisioners of Public Works at Clonmacnoise in recent years. As the first phase in the development of a new visitor centre, landscaped bus and car parking facilities have been provided as well as a new toilet block. The plans also provide for the provision of a large exhibition area, an audio-visual theatre and refreshment facilities. This work will be carried out on a phased basis as funds become available. At this stage I cannot say when the entire project will be completed.
