Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - Designated Areas.

172.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will declare County Mayo as a designated area for the provision of industry in view of its very high emigration levels and unemployment statistics; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Section 4 of the Industrial Development Act, 1986, provides for the declaration of areas as designated areas. Industrial undertakings in designated areas may benefit from higher levels of grant assistance and also from a two-thirds remission of rates for a ten year period. County Mayo is such a designated area.
