asked the Minister for Defence the current rate of pay in respect of each grade of apprentice in the Army, Air Corps and Naval Service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

, Limerick West): The weekly pay rates for apprentices in the Permanent Defence Force are as follows:

Apprentices may also qualify for technician pay of £6.96 per week (£13.11 per week for radio mechanics) in their fourth year.

As regards the rate of pay for the intake of apprentices in 1988 and subsequent years I refer the Deputy to the reply given to Questions Nos. 15 and 49 on 15 June 1988.
