Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - Glendalough (Wicklow) Land Acquisition.

289.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will direct that Coillte Teoranta transfer unplanted land in their ownership in the Glendalough area of County Wicklow to the Office of Public Works in order that the nature reserves there can be expanded into a national park; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Forest Service of my Department are currently in the process of transferring unplanted areas in its possession in County Wicklow, amounting to approximately 3,000 hectares, to the Office of Public Works to facilitate the establishment of a Wicklow national park. This is in addition to approximately 2,000 hectares already made available in this connection.

It is anticipated that the transfer in question will be completed before the end of December 1988 but, in any event Coillte Teoranta will be obliged to implement any arrangements in this regard previously agreed by my Department.
