Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - Diplomatic Relations Extension.

66.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the present position regarding the possibility of establishing diplomatic relations between this country and Cuba.

Ireland's network of diplomatic relations is small and must remain so for the foreseeable future given our limited financial and personnel resources. Possibilities for its extension are examined from time to time in the light of our national and international interests and the availability of the necessary resources. For the reasons as stated there are still, as indicated in my reply to Deputy McCartan on 8 December, 1987, no plans to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba at the present time.
