Vol. 385 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Workers Redundancy Offer.

133.

asked the Minister for Health if the special redundancy offer made to health workers has ceased; and if so, if he is considering or if he will be recommending to the Government to make a further offer on the same lines in the near future.

The Government have decided that the arrangements whereby the terms of the public service early retirement scheme were on general offer to personnel aged 50 or over will not apply in 1989. The actual date of retirement in the case of staff availing of the scheme must not be later than 14 December 1988.

With regard to 1989, it has been decided that health service managements may apply to my Department to have the terms of the voluntary redundancy scheme applied to particular staff members in circumstances where a contraction of existing service levels is proposed and then only in relation to specific institutions and areas of activity.
