Vol. 385 No. 7

Written Answers. - Sexual Offenders.

49.

asked the Minister for Justice whether it is appropriate that those who have been convicted of sexual offences are returned to the community immediately on release from prison without any further monitoring or probationary period; if he will consider incorporating such a provision in the recently published Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Bill, 1988; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I do not consider that it would be appropriate for me to anticipate, by way of a reply to a parliamentary question, matters which might arise in the course of consideration by the Oireachtas of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Bill, 1988, which, as the Deputy will be aware, is at present awaiting debate in the Seanad.
