Vol. 386 No. 5

Written Answers. - Fishing Licences.

52.

asked the Minister for the Marine the number of £15 brown trout licences purchased in each fishery region in 1988.

53.

asked the Minister for the Marine if he has received details of the number of rod licences taken out in 1988 from the various fisheries boards or from the Central Fisheries Board; if so, if he will outline the number of licences taken out under each category, old and new; the total revenue taken in by these licences in each category; the total revenue taken in by the new licences after excluding the salmon element of the composite licences; and if he will give details of all of these aspects, broken down by each fishery board area.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 52 and 53 together.

Total revenue from rod licences in 1988 has reached almost £400,000. Revenue from the sale of the new licences (trout, coarse fish and composite) amounted to £148,660 which represents almost seven times the revenue received in 1987 from the previous voluntary registration system.

Full details of the 1988 sales are shown in the attached schedule. The composite licence entitles the holder to fish for all freshwater species and there is no salmon element in the licence as such.
