Vol. 386 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Steering Group.

40.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will set up a Dublin/Wicklow mountain steering group as suggested by the Wicklow Mountains Environmental Group in order to co-ordinate Government policies and implement development management proposals for the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen the document "A Plan for the Wicklow Hills" in which the Wicklow Mountains Environmental Group suggest the setting up of a Dublin/Wicklow Steering Group comprising public Departments and the two local authorities concerned. The proper planning and development of their areas is devolved on the relevant planning authority under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Acts, 1963-1983 in the context of the local development plan and accordingly, any necessary steps for the management, development and control of the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains would be a matter for those authorities. I understand that the Wicklow Mountains Environmental Group have had discussions with Dublin and Wicklow County Councils.
