Vol. 387 No. 1

Written Answers. - Stamping of Legal Documents.

75.

asked the Minister for Finance the average delay involved in the stamping of legal documents by the Revenue Commissioners and their return to those lodging same; and if he will take steps to expedite the procedure.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the following is the situation in relation to the processing of legal documentation submitted for stamping:

Type of case

Average Delay

Non-Adjudication Cases

Counter application

None

Postal application

—Single instrument with payment

5/6 weeks

—Set of instruments with payment

8 weeks

—Instruments for assessment

6 weeks

Adjudication Cases

2/3 weeks

There has been a substantial increase in the volume of documentation being lodged for stamping due to the upturn in the property market. The increased use of endowment mortgages has also increased the volume of documentation which requires stamping. The Revenue Commissioners are taking steps to reduce the delays associated with postal applications to the extent possible.
