Vol. 387 No. 2

Written Answers. - Appointment of Caretaker.

33.

asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the appointment of a caretaker at St. Conleth's girls' and infants' school, Newbridge, County Kildare.

The previous Government took a decision in 1982 to phase out the scheme for the employment of caretakers in national schools due to the deterioration in the state of the public finances.

This phasing out is continuing and it is, therefore, not open to my Department to approve the appointment of a replacement where a position falls vacant.
