Vol. 387 No. 4

Written Answers. - Kerry Road Improvements.

95.

asked the Minister for the Environment if road plans and funds for road improvements on the national primary road from Lissyvigeen Cross, Killarney through Minish level crossing to Glenflesk, County Kerry are to be made available to Kerry County Council in 1989.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the section of national primary road between Lissyvigeen Cross, Killarney and Glenflesk. The improvement of this section of road forms a part of proposals for a major improvement scheme for the N22 between Killarney and the Kerry-Cork county boundary. The question of road grant funding in 1989 for the design of the scheme will be decided in the context of this year's road grant grant allocations for national roads. These allocations will be finalised shortly.

The timing of construction of the scheme is being considered in the context of the preparation by my Department of:

(a) an operational programme for national roads for the period 1989 to 1993, which will be submitted to the EC Commission before the end of next month for the purposes of the revised EC Structural Funds, and

(b) a blueprint for road development which will be published by next June.
