Vol. 387 No. 5

Written Answers. - Land Registry Office Vacancies.

28.

asked the Minister for Justice the proposals, if any, he has, to fill the vacancies in the Land Registry Office; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that staff shortages are causing delays of up to 15 months or longer in the registration of title; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that staff shortages are causing delays in the Land Registry. The Land Registry is, of course, subject to general Government policy in relation to staffing numbers in the public service. Last autumn I obtained the agreement of the Department of Finance to the redeployment of 35 additional staff to the Land Registry. Unfortunately, there has been a delay in the redeployment procedure and no extra staff have become available yet. However, I am hopeful that additional staff will be made available in the immediate future.
