Vol. 387 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

62.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment benefit will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry having regard to previous representations and the reply thereto.

There is no trace of a recent claim for unemployment benefit or assistance having been received from the person concerned. It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the person's claim for injury benefit from 26 September 1988.

As indicated in reply dated 25 January 1989 to the Deputy's previous question, inquiries were made from the employer who failed to confirm the alleged accident at work. The matter was then referred to the Social Welfare officer for investigation. These investigations are being completed and a decision will be made as soon as possible.

63.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange for payment of disability benefit due to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim.

Payment of disability benefit to the person concerned was disallowed from 21 September 1988, following an examination by a medical referee who expressed the opinion that he was capable of work. He appealed against the disallowance of benefit and was examined by a different medical referee on 10 November 1988 who also expressed the opinion that he was capable of work.

His appeal has been referred to an appeals officer for determination.

64.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason sick benefit has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Meath.

The person concerned was in receipt of disability benefit to 2 November 1987, when benefit was disallowed following an examination by a medical referee who considered him capable of work. This disallowance was upheld by an appeals officer.

He continued to submit medical evidence of incapacity for work and his claim was disallowed by a deciding officer. He appealed and he was examined again on 28 September 1988 by a medical referee who expressed the opinion that he was capable of work. His case has been referred again to an appeals officer for determination.
