Vol. 387 No. 5

Written Answers. - Macroom to Kerry Boundary Road.

81.

asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals, if any, which Cork County Council have in relation to road realignment from Macroom to the Kerry county boundary; if land acquisition has been completed; the cost of the recent road strengthening in this area; those who instructed that the road strengthening be carried out; and if his Department gave approval to the expenditure and to the scheme.

Primary responsibility for the planning and development of any proposals for the improvement of the N22 between Macroom and the Cork-Kerry county boundary rests with the local authority concerned, Cork County Council. No proposals in this regard have been received in the Department.

The local authority's national road maintenance programme for 1988, which was approved by the Department, included a provision of £198,000 for maintenance works on the N22. The location of the individual works to be undertaken on foot of this provision was a matter for the authority.
