Vol. 387 No. 7

Written Answers. - Special Class for Hearing Impaired Child.

172.

asked the Minister for Education the arrangements which are being made to place a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 who is five years old and has a communication problem and requires admission to a special class for learning and language impaired children.

My Department on 1 September, 1988 sanctioned the establishment of a second special class for language and learning-impaired children in St. Patrick's national school, Drumcondra. Those children who were considered most needy were selected for enrolment. The applicant was one of a number of children referred to the special class whom it was not found possible to enrol at the time. However, it is understood that the school has been in contact with the child's parents concerning the provision of updated assessments. On receipt of these assessments every effort will be made to have the child enrolled next September.
