Vol. 387 No. 7

Written Answers. - Services for Blind.

173.

asked the Minister for Education if she has satisfied herself regarding the general knowledge of administrators for third level educational bodies as to the abilities and needs of the blind and handicapped in the light of a report (details supplied) on services for the blind.

181.

asked the Minister for Education the plans she has to ensure that all centres of third level education make specific provisions, services and facilities available for blind students.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 173 and 181 together.

Third level institutions are providing facilities for students with disabilities in so far as it is possible within the resources available to them. The arrangements in each case are a matter for the authorities of the institution concerned.

The question of any additional action needed to increase the general awareness of administrators of these institutions as to the abilities and needs of blind and other handicapped students is being pursued with the Higher Education Authority and other relevant bodies.
