Vol. 387 No. 7

Written Answers. - Currency Forgery.

48.

asked the Minister for Justice if there is an inquiry in progress by the Garda Síochána fraud squad into the forgery of a substantial sum of money in £5 denominations, involving a printing press discovered in a warehouse in Ringsend, Dublin 4; if there is a warrant for the arrest of a person (details supplied); if that person has been arrested; and if not, if the Garda Síochána are aware of his whereabouts; if there have been any other developments in the case; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not the practice for Ministers for Justice to make statements to the House about the progress of specific Garda investigations except in singular instances where the circumstances are so exceptional that such a course is deemed appropriate.

In this case I propose to say only that the Garda authorities have informed me that the matter is the subject of an on-going investigation.
