Vol. 387 No. 8

Written Answers. - Derelict Houses.

51.

asked the Minister for the Environment the plans he has for dealing with a number of derelict houses (details supplied) in County Meath; and if he recommended proposals to Navan Urban District Council for a satisfactory conclusion in the matter.

57.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a request from Navan Urban District Council, County Meath for the approval of the sale of 28 St. Patrick's Terrace, Navan and for one-off grants for improvements to some of the remaining houses in the terrace; when he received such a request; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the residential quality of this terrace has deteriorated significantly because of the presence of a number of derelict houses; if his attention has further been drawn to the urgent need of the residents for a remedy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 51 and 57 together.

The management and maintenance of their housing stock is a matter for the local authority concerned. The council submitted documentation for the disposal of 28 St. Patrick's Terrace on 30 October 1987. In conjunction with this, however, it was necessary to consider proposals from the housing authority in relation to the condition of other vacant houses in the scheme, including the possibility of refurbishing them. The council's proposals for the disposal of houses, including 28 St. Patrick's Terrace, have been approved in principle.
