asked the Minister for Finance the purposes to which national lottery proceeds can be applied under section 5 of the National Lottery Act, 1986; in particular, if there are any additional purposes determined by the Government; and the dates of any such determination and publication in Iris Oifigiúil.

Under section 5 of the National Lottery Act, 1986, the purposes for which moneys paid into the national lottery fund can be applied are sport and other recreation, national culture (including the Irish language), the arts (within the meaning of the Arts Act, 1951) and the health of the community, and such other purposes, as the Government may determine from time to time.

On 8 May 1987 the Government decided to add youth activities to the list of eligible purposes. Notice of this decision was published in Iris Oifigiúil on Friday, 22 May 1987. On 30 October 1987 the Government decided to add amenity and welfare projects to the list. Notice of this decision was published in Iris Oifigiúil on Tuesday, 22 December 1987.
