Vol. 387 No. 9

Written Answers. - National Art Gallery.

32.

asked the Minister for Finance the progress made to date on the repairs and refurbishment of the National Art Gallery, Dublin 2; and in particular, the progress on the provision of a proper picture restoration premises.

A contract for repair works to the roof of the 1864 wing of the National Gallery is in progress at present and should be completed within the next two months.

Plans are now being finalised by the Commissioners of Public Works for the first phase of a major refurbishment to the National Gallery. It is hoped to invite tenders in July.

The overall refurbishment scheme envisages the provision of a centralised restoration area within the Gallery. It is proposed that this area will be provided in a later phase of the work.
