Vol. 387 No. 9

Written Answers. - Heavy Fuel Oil Tax.

53.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has reviewed the impact of the higher rate of tax paid on heavy fuel oil in electricity generation.

The rate of excise duty on heavy fuel oil used in the generation of electricity was reviewed with other duties in the course of the preparation of the 1989 budget. I decided that that rate should remain unchanged for the present. It should be noted that heavy fuel oil now accounts for only 8 per cent of the ESB's electricity generation.
