asked the Minister for Labour the number of cases heard by the Employment Appeals Tribunal under the Unfair Dismissals Act, 1977, in (a) 1986, (b) 1987 and (c) 1988; the number of these cases which were found in favour of the employee; and the average level of compensation in these cases.

An analysis of cases dealt with by the Employment Appeals Tribunal under the Unfair Dismissals Act, 1977, and the average level of compensation in those cases on which the Tribunal made a determination is set out below. Cases are distinguished between those referred directly to the Tribunal and those referred on appeal against a rights commissioner's recommendation.
