Vol. 388 No. 3

Written Answers. - Drogheda (County Louth) Complex Funding.

79.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in the allocation of finance for the reconstruction work at the Millmount Complex, Drogheda, County Louth; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that work has had to be discontinued by Drogheda Corporation due to lack of finance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Millmount complex has been included in the list of tourism projects that are to be implemented under the Special Border Areas Programme Phase II. This Programme provides assistance from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) over the period from 1 April 1986 to 25 February 1991. The list of tourism projects was agreed last year subject to settlement of the details of roads projects for inclusion in the Programme. Following the agreement, it was necessary to obtain details of expenditure to date on the projects by the implementing agencies, so as to prepare claims for payment of ERDF assistance. This information is being compiled at present and payment claims will be submitted very shortly. When the ERDF assistance is received, it will be paid to the implementing agencies, including Drogheda Corporation, to enable them to do further work on the listed projects.
