asked the Minister for Health the number of applications received by the Adoption Board to date in accordance with the provisions of the Adoption Act, 1988; if he will give a break-down of these applications by the Adoption Society or health board; and the number of declarations made by the Adoption Board in favour of applicants under section 2.1 of the Adoption Act, 1988.

The Adoption Board have to date received eight new applicants for adoption orders which are being processed in accordance with the provisions of the Adoption Act, 1988. In addition, the Adoption Board have re-activated six applications on which it had earlier adjourned a decision.

Of these 14 applications for adoption orders, nine are in respect of children placed with applicants by the Eastern Health Board, three are in respect of children placed with the applicants by the North-Eastern Health Board and the remaining two involve children who were placed with the applicants by a private arrangement.

To date the Adoption Board have made three declarations under section 2 (1) of the Adoption Act, 1988.
