Vol. 388 No. 4

Written Answers. - Death Inquiry.

76.

asked the Minister for Health the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 was refused admission to Blanchardstown Hospital, Dublin 15 on 25 February, 1989, despite being referred by her general practitioner, because there was no bed available; given that this woman died 36 hours later, if he will have this matter fully investigated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The patient concerned was seen at the casualty department of James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown on 25 February 1989. On the basis of the medical assessment admission was not thought necessary. An early outpatient appointment was recommended. Her non admission was not associated in any way with the availability of beds at the hospital but was decided on clinical judgement.
