Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Legal Expenses.

124.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total expenditure incurred in legal fees or other costs, in defending or appealing cases regarding entitlement taken by social welfare recipients to the courts in each of the past five years.

The bulk of the expenditure on legal fees in such cases is borne on the Vote of the Office of the Attorney General.Other costs are borne on the Vote of my Department. Records are not maintained in either office, however, in such a way as would enable expenditure arising in relation to court cases of this kind to be readily identified.
