Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Meat Company Fines.

156.

asked the Minister for Finance how many fines or other penalties have been paid by a company (details supplied) to customs and excise or to the Revenue Commissioners relating to consignments of cattle en route to that company's plants or at that company's plants and the amount of each such fine or penalty; in relation to any such penalty, if any prosecutions were considered or instituted and in how many such cases were documents referred to the Garda authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The details supplied do not refer to a specific company. However, I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that they do not impose fines or penalties. They do not have the power to compromise proceedings for the recovery of penalties or condemnation of seizures by accepting payment of compromise sums. Details of individual compromise cases are regarded as confidential and are not disclosed by the commissioners.
