asked the Minister for Communications the number of persons (a) charged (b) convicted summarily and (c) convicted on indictment for each of the past ten years for an offence against section 99 of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983, or prior equivalent legislation; in each case, the number of people so charged or convicted who were remunerated from public funds or were members of a public body or agency; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There were three such prosecutions and summary convictions in 1987, two in 1988 and one in 1989. There is no prior equivalent legislation to section 99 of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983.
