Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - MMDS System.

181.

asked the Minister for Communications the nature of any testing that has taken place in regard to the feasibility of the MMDS system being suitable for Ireland's particular geographical conditions; the extent of any such testing which has taken place; if he has satisfied himself that there are no health hazards associated with this system in view of its particular wavelength; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that MMDS provides the only feasible possibility consistent with good radio frequency management, of providing a range of viewing choice comparable to cable services on a national basis. I would refer the Deputy to my replies to previous questions on this topic. Columns 2498 to 2502, volume 379 of the Official Report of 28 April, 1988 and columns 946 to 951 and 992 to 993 volume 381 of 1 June 1988 refer. I would also refer the Deputy to the information leaflet on MMDS which my Department published recently and which was laid before both Houses.
