Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Unleaded Petrol.

195.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, following his exhortations in respect of the use of unleaded petrol, he has corresponded with all the semi-State bodies under his aegis directing them to use unleaded petrol in all of the petrol driven vehicles which are under the control, ownership or leasing of those semi-State companies; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has written to bodies under its aegis seeking their support for the campaign to promote wider use and availability of unleaded petrol, including the use of unleaded petrol, where possible, in existing vehicles and to ensure when purchasing new vehicles, that these are capable of using unleaded petrol.

Of these bodies only two have a number of petrol driven vehicles not all of which can use unleaded. I will be keeping in touch with the organisations concerned to ensure that replacements for these vehicles will be capable of using unleaded.
