asked the Minister for the Environment the number of urban district councils which have town parks; if any grants/loans have been allocated for the development of existing town parks in 1987 and 1988; if any urban district council applied for and received a grant towards the purchase of land to develop and open a town park in 1987 and 1988; the names of the urban district councils which have opened town parks in 1987 and 1988; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No urban district council opened a townpark during 1987. Ballina, Carrick-on-Suir, Clones and Nenagh Urban District Councils opened townparks during 1988.

The grants mentioned were made under the amenity grants scheme.
