Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Unleaded Petrol.

240.

asked the Minister for Health if, following the exhortations of the Minister for the Environment in respect of the use of unleaded petrol, he has corresponded with all the semi-State bodies under his aegis directing them to use unleaded petrol in all of the petrol driven vehicles which are under the control, ownership or leasing of those semi-State companies; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In November 1988 it was suggested to each hospital, health board and other health agencies that: (a) they explore the availability of unleaded petrol within their normal areas of operation; (b) where the purchase of additional or replacement vehicles are being considered, preference should be given to vehicles which use the unleaded product; and (c) consideration be given to the adjustment of suitable vehicles in existing fleets to allow the use of unleaded petrol where vehicles in use have a reasonably unexpired lifespan.
