asked the Minister for Health the scale of payments payable to various categories of student nurses at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9, in respect of the years (1) 1988 and (ii) 1989.

The tabular statement below sets out the agreed national rates payable to all grades of student nurses in 1988 and in 1989.

Student nurses in their first year of training in addition to the payments mentioned above are provided with free accommodation. In their second and third year of training, they receive premium payments in respect of weekend, public holiday and night duty worked in addition to the payments mentioned above.

A small number of first year student nurses who, on the closure of St. Laurence's/Jervis Street Hospitals in 1987 were transferred to Beaumont Hospital, were paid £122 per week plus premium payments in respect of their second year of training. The standard third year rate was applied to these students in their final year of training.
